Réjean Girard, P.Geo. - IOS Géosciences

Réjean Girard, P.Geo.

President

Réjean is one of the founders and current president of IOS. With nearly 45 years of experience in geology and mineral exploration, including more than 30 years at the helm of IOS Geosciences, he has been directly involved in more than 1800 distinct projects. He has built extensive expertise in all areas of mineral exploration, from simple prospecting to artificial intelligence–based predictive models. Réjean is a well-known figure in Quebec’s mining community and continues to be involved in R&D, training, and many other aspects of the industry. His strength lies in his ability to integrate knowledge from diverse fields and explore unconventional avenues. He remains a reference in applied mineralogy and geochemistry.

Patrice Villeneuve, P.Eng., P.Geo. - IOS Géosciences

Patrice Villeneuve, P.Eng., P.Geo.

Director of operations

Patrice has over 27 years of experience in mineral exploration and has developed expertise in Quaternary geology. He holds bachelor’s degrees in geology and geological engineering from Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, obtained in 1999 and 2010, respectively. Since 2006, he has held the position of Director of Operations and is responsible for the operational and logistical aspects of all IOS Geosciences projects. Since the beginning of his career, Patrice has been involved in Quaternary geology studies in Quebec, managing hundreds of geochemical sampling campaigns (soil, till, lake sediment). He has also carried out various types of stratigraphic drilling. Patrice is actively involved in the interpretation, planning, and design of geochemical surveys. He remains the reference person for interpreting the stratigraphy of Quaternary units from overburden drilling data.

Natacha Fournier, P.Geo. - IOS Géosciences

With IOS Geosciences since 2000, Natacha holds a bachelor’s degree in earth sciences from Université Laval and a graduate diploma in professional development in sciences and exploration engineering from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. Initially hired as a mineralogist to work on indicator mineral studies, she participated in the development of the ARTGold technology and acquired expertise in the preparation of heavy mineral samples. Natacha currently holds the position of Laboratory Director and plays a key role in the management of various projects. She is routinely involved in the preparation and analysis of till survey data.

Hugues Longuépée, P.Geo., Ph.D. - IOS Géosciences

Director of business development

Hugues has over 20 years of experience in the mineral industry. Whether as a researcher, surveyor, or manager in mine development, he has been involved in projects dealing with various types of mineralization, from magmatic nickel deposits to iron formations, pegmatites, volcanogenic massive sulphides, and diamonds. Since his arrival at IOS Geosciences, Hugues has paid particular attention to the valorization of mineralogical information and secondary environmental chemistry. As Director of Business Development, he takes an interest in new technologies and minerals of the future and is always on the lookout for partnerships with key players in the field. He continues to love fieldwork and always finds time to become involved in drilling and prospecting campaigns.

Jean-Michel Dubé, P.Geo., M.A.Sc. - IOS Géosciences

Director resource estimation and I.T.

Jean-Michel holds a master’s degree in geology from the Université du Québec à Montréal (2016), during which he studied seismic anisotropy in the Canadian High Arctic. He has more than 18 years of experience in geology. After several years of fieldwork campaigns in Quebec, Ontario, and Africa, his career path led him to geological modelling and resource calculations. With IOS Geosciences since 2022, Jean-Michel is an experienced user of several data processing and modelling software packages (Leapfrog, Surpac, Oasis Montaj, X10). Having overseen many resource calculations and audits in his career, he can meet the diverse needs of the industry in this field of expertise. Jean-Michel also combines his professional training with his passion for computing by working on implementing frameworks for the management, storage, and validation of geological data (laboratory, drilling, etc.).

Director of applied mineralogy & electron microscopy

Jonathan holds a master’s degree in geological engineering from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. His thesis focused on the understanding of Nb mineralization in the Saint-Honoré carbonatite. He has a keen interest in new analytical methods and the development of innovative technologies. With IOS Geosciences since 2017, Jonathan has been a major contributor to the development of the ART suite of technologies (ARTGold, ARTPhot, ARTMin, ARTSection), which constitutes a service that is unique in the world. Today, as Director of Applied Mineralogy, he continues to work on improving the technologies used by IOS Geosciences while also carrying out mineralogical studies used by various exploration and engineering firms and government agencies.

Karine Desbiens - IOS Géosciences

Administrative Assistant

Karine has been an administrative assistant at IOS Geosciences since 2011. Key to the company’s day-to-day operations, she assists employees with office automation and local logistics, is responsible for the final editing of reports, and is involved in various accounting and communication tasks. Occasionally, she participates in sample preparation for the mineralogy department.

Sanmei Gao, M.Sc. - IOS Géosciences

Administration

A geologist by training, Sanmei holds a master’s degree in geology from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. Following her graduation in 1994, she was initially hired by IOS Geosciences as a mineralogist, subsequently taking on roles as a technical draftsperson and data manager. Since 2018, Sanmei has taken charge of the company’s accounts, which she manages daily. Her many years of experience being involved in the company’s operations ensure the efficient administrative follow-up of projects. Although she still occasionally assists in counting mineral indicators, Sanmei’s primary concern is the smooth running of the company and employee well-being.

Mélanie holds a master’s degree in renewable resources from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi and has been with IOS Geosciences since 2012. Originally a biologist involved in various environmental studies and bio- or geochemical surveys, she has developed expertise in geomatics and has been key in setting up field data collection methods. Mélanie remains responsible for a wide range of tasks essential to fieldwork. She oversees geomatics, map production, and the securing of the multiple permit applications required for exploration work. Since 2023, she has been the company’s health and safety resource person.

Olivier Nadeau, P.Geo., Ph.D. - IOS Géosciences

Metallogenist

After obtaining his Ph.D. from McGill University in 2010, Olivier worked as a researcher at various Canadian institutions before becoming a professor at the China University of Geosciences (Wuhan). His work has focused on various types of deposits, with an emphasis on those related to hydrothermalism. Olivier joined IOS Geosciences in 2022 as a metallurgist. He is particularly interested in the genesis of hydrothermal metalliferous deposits, stable and radiogenic isotope geochemistry, and the development of new geochemical exploration methods for petrology, mineralogy, and trace elements.

Mikaël Block, P.Geo. - IOS Géosciences

Project manager

With a French master’s degree in mineral exploration and management, Mikaël has over 17 years of experience in mineral exploration at IOS Geosciences. Over his career, he has worked on a wide range of minerals, including gold, niobium/tantalum, iron, graphite, phosphate, titanium, and occasionally lithium, uranium, and diamonds. Mikaël is an occasional lecturer at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, where he has taught gitology, mining project evaluation, and quality control in geological data acquisition. Mikaël specializes in the management of drilling campaigns and routinely mentors the company’s young geologists. He is also involved in team and personnel management at IOS Geosciences.

At IOS Geosciences since her graduation in 2017, Marie-Odile has been involved in several exploration campaigns (prospecting, sampling). She currently focuses on applied mineralogy and has extensive knowledge of the various minerals found in different types of sediment surveys. In addition to her bachelor’s degree in geology from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC), Marie-Odile holds a specialized graduate diploma in geology and geological engineering and a graduate diploma in professional development in sciences and exploration engineering, both from UQAC.

Jonathan Lavoie, P.Eng. - IOS Géosciences

Following the completion of his Master of Science (Geology) from the University of Geneva and Lausanne in 2016, Jonathan joined IOS Geosciences as a geological engineer. He has worked on various types of projects, including Quaternary sediment surveys, drilling campaigns, and mapping work, focused mainly on gold but also graphite, lithium, nickel, niobium, titanium, and phosphate. Jonathan’s versatility and experience enable him to supervise all kinds of field projects, and he contributes to the training of geology interns, engineering candidates, technicians, and students. He plays an active role in the drafting of various reports, providing scientific and methodological rigour.

Database manager

Marine holds a Master's degree in mineral exploration from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi in mineral exploration. After her studies, Marine held geology-related positions with various exploration companies in Quebec, where she was involved in quality control of exploration data as part of resource calculations. Back at IOS Geosciences since 2024 , Marine uses her experience to help the company provide its customers with standardized, high-quality data.

Audrey Tremblay, P.Geo. - IOS Géosciences

Audrey holds a bachelor’s degree in applied geology from the Université du Québec à Montréal obtained in 2004, and she worked in civil engineering until 2013. After an eight-year hiatus, Audrey returned to geology with IOS Geosciences in 2021. She has since risen through the ranks and now holds the position of Laboratory Supervisor. She favours a proactive approach to problem-solving and encourages exchanges between colleagues. From time to time, Audrey frees herself from the laboratory to assist with field campaigns, whether for prospecting or sampling campaigns.

Isabelle has been with IOS Geosciences since 2011, where she holds the position of Laboratory Manager. She holds a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and another in biology and has undergone training in the fundamentals of project management. In addition to her day-to-day tasks related to the operation of various analytical instruments and the validation of all operations in the laboratory, she participates in updating various operational protocols at IOS Geosciences and is involved in the technical aspects of various research and development projects.

Quality control

Trained as a chemist and holding a master’s degree in renewable resources from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (2008), Véronique also completed undergraduate courses in geology and geological engineering. She has over 18 years of experience in commercial laboratories, where she participated in the development, implementation, and improvement of analytical methods. With IOS Geosciences since 2022, Véronique oversees geochemical quality control and the transmission of geochemical and mineralogical data to customers. Relying on her experience, she guides project managers and customers in the choice of appropriate analytical methods to best achieve the project’s objectives and needs.

Ariane holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the Université de Sherbrooke and has been with IOS Geosciences since 2022. Initially hired as a laboratory technician, she is now involved in operations as a chemist-in-training. She is interested in all aspects of geochemistry and biology.

Dominic Lavoie - IOS Géosciences

An industrial mechanic by training, Dominic is the Logistics Supervisor at IOS Geosciences, which he joined in 2010. He is responsible for managing equipment, preparing the logistics required for projects, and ensuring the smooth running of the warehouse and garage. Given his experience, his involvement in numerous exploration projects, his versatility, and his vast network of contacts, Dominic finds solutions to almost any problem by demonstrating his adaptability and flexibility.

Petrologist & claim manager

Lucie has been working for IOS for more than 20 years and has performed hundreds of studies for mineralization potential for exploration companies and aggregate characterization for engineering firms. She also manages claim renewals. Retiring shortly, we salute her highly-skilled and minutious work she has performed over her career. We wish her the best!

A recent graduate of the master’s short program in professional development in sciences and exploration engineering at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, Sarah has already been involved in multiple exploration projects since joining IOS Geosciences in 2022. Energetic and proactive, Sarah has a particular interest in metallogenic processes and is committed to providing rigorous, high-quality data for the projects with which she is involved.

Adrien holds a master’s degree in geology and geological engineering from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. His work, carried out as part of the Metal Earth research project, focused on the petrogenesis and economic potential of the Obatogamau Formation in the Chibougamau and Chapais region. Adrien has been with IOS Geosciences since 2021 and has been involved in exploration projects of varying degrees of advancement in various regions of Quebec for substances such as gold, graphite, nickel and copper, phosphorus, lithium, and niobium. Adrien is particularly interested in magmatic mineralization. He pays close attention to mineralogy and is particularly fond of cartography, to which he brings meticulousness and enthusiasm.

Émerik joined IOS Geosciences in 2021 and holds a graduate diploma in mineral exploration from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. During his studies, Émerik was a member of the finalist team for the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada’s Next Generation Explorers Award in 2020. Since joining IOS Geosciences, he has worked on a variety of projects, particularly those dealing with lithium, graphite, and gold in iron formations. Today, he continues to pursue his passion for mineral exploration, participating in multiple reconnaissance projects and drilling campaigns in various regions of Quebec.

With a master’s degree in Quaternary geology and seismic risk, Thomas joined IOS Geosciences in 2022 after four years of pursuing his doctoral studies at the University of Waterloo in similar fields. Although specialized in Quaternary geology, Thomas is interested in all aspects of geology, from the diversity of environments to new tools and methods. He is involved in data interpretation and the application and improvement of the stochastic approach developed by IOS Geosciences.

With IOS Geosciences since 2000, Gaétan is a jack-of-all-trades who is the Assistant Logistics Manager. He has participated in several exploration campaigns as a field assistant. With his extensive experience in setting up camps in remote environments, Gaétan finds effective solutions for the smooth running of temporary installations. He is also involved in implementing new health and safety standards within the company.

Mathieu holds a professional diploma in the protection and management of wildlife areas and joined IOS Geosciences in 2022 as a camp hand. He is currently putting this experience to good use as a logistics assistant. Mathieu is responsible for equipment repair and preparation and is actively involved in the company’s health and safety activities.
