Your know-how on optical properties of minerals are long forgotten? Not an issue, because digital petrography will answer all your questions. This technique involves acquiring a high-resolution optical image in transmitted light using a digital microscope and then scanning the polished thin slide with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to obtain a mosaic of backscattered electron images and a false-colour phase map.

The mineral species, their modal proportions, and their chemical compositions are provided. Use our ARTSectionViewer software to navigate through your samples and then measure and calculate the modal proportions or mineral associations of areas of interest. The method is fully customizable to your needs.
